The Line Mountain School District is committed to providing quality instructional programs that provide opportunities for students to achieve academically and to meet their career goals. Courses are revised to reflect the Pennsylvania Academic standards and anchors and to reflect the content and skills necessary for students to be successful. Students may choose to select College Prep., Career Prep., or Vo-Tech pathways with options to take Advanced Placement classes as well as Dual Enrollment courses with Luzerne County Community College. Assessments are varied and include paper and pencil tests, writing assignments and performance task assessments (projects, oral presentations, etc.), which utilize a rubric or checklist. In addition to the PSSA given in grades 3-8 and 11, students are given the TerraNova assessment in grades 2, 9, and 10. Beginning in the 2006-07 school year, all students in grades 3-11 will take the 4Sight Benchmark assessment in Reading and Math to determine the proficiency of students on the academic standards. This assessment will provide teachers with the tools necessary to monitor and to adjust their curriculum, so students can be successful. Many different instructional strategies such as cooperative learning, differentiated instruction, procedural Reading and Writing, etc. are used to teach students. Professional development is provided for the faculty and staff in order to assist them in the delivery of curriculum. In-Service, Act 80 Days and the E.A.G.L.E. Academy provide opportunities for training and education. Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment is best summarized in the Mission Statement of the school district, which is, “Education to Prepare all Students for Life”. |
